WSET Awards of Excellence - Advanced 2008

Level 3 Advanced Certificate in Wines and Spirits Scholarships

The top 30 students who have achieved either a Pass with Distinction or Pass with Merit are invited to the Advanced Certificate Scholarship Competition which takes place every November.  They are required to verbally answer questions on 9 different wine/spirit regions as well as a blind tasting.

	The David Burroughs Scholarship Sponsored by the WSET and named in memory of the Trust's first Chief Executive.  A place on a WSET study tour to a major wine or spirit producing region. Winner: Nadine Weihgold (The Dorchester Hotel) Presented by: Julian Brind MW (Chairman, WSET)
	The Vintners' Bursaries Three bursaries, sponsored by The Vintners' Company, used towards the cost of a foreign study tour. Winners:  Victoria Scott (non-trade), Davie Hefford (Majestic) and Curly Haslam-Coates (Majestic)   Presented by: Anthony Edwards (Master of the Vintners' Co.)
	The Oddbins Scholarship A place on a WSET study tour to a major wine or spirit producing region. Winner: Adam Green (Jeroboams) Presented by: Ayo Akintola (Oddbins)
	The Cálem Port Award A study tour to the Douro as a guest of AA Cálem & Filho SA. Winner: Lydia Harrison (Majestic) Presented by: Nicholas Leonard (Charlié Richards)
	The Cava & Penedès Wine Institute Bursary A place on the Cava & Penedès Wine Institute Bursary study course and a case of wine from the sponsors. Winner: Jean-Remi Barris (Searcy's) Presented by: Graham Fortune (Freixenet DWS Ltd)
	The Champagne Academy Scholarship A place on the Champagne Academy study course. Winner: Paul Medder (Wine Intelligence) Presented by: Bill Page (WSET Trustee)
	The Porter & Laker Prize £750 contribution towards fees for candidate intending to enrol on WSET Diploma course. Winner: David Alen (Coe Vintners) Presented by:  Chris Porter (Porter & Laker)
	United Kingdom Vineyards Association Prize A programme of events organised throughout the vineyard year: seasonal visits to appropriate English Vineyards, an invitation to the National Competition and the November Symposium plus a case of English Wine. Winner: Salvatore Margiotta (Foster's EMEA) Presented by: Roger Marchbank (UK Vineyard Association)
	The Incorporation of Coopers of Glasgow Scholarship A visit to a cooperage in Glasgow and a whisky tasting session. Winner: Tara O'Leary Presented by:  Richard Paterson (JBB Plc)
	The Rhône Prize A silver-plated wine cooler, held by the winner for a year, and a case of Rhône wines selected by Hallgarten Wines. Winner: Laura Markell (Bibendum) Presented by: John Cunynghame (Hallgarten)
	The Codorniu Scholarships A four-day study tour to Spain for three winners. Winners: Beth Collier (Thierry's), David Corrie (Majestic) and Richard ayre (First Growth Direct)  Presented by: Bill Breen (Cordorniu)
